Over the last several years Major League baseball as a whole has been pretty good at holding breast awareness promotions and fund raising efforts such as auctioning off game used pink bats on mothers day. One such promotion the Oakland A's held in 2004 offered a 5k run, free mammograms, and a free woman's floppy sunhat to the first 7500 women. Sounds great right? Well guess what, apparently not for a poor, discriminated man. As documented in Rick Reilly's online column on espn.com some jag who is presumably a disciple of Rush decided to fight this injustice in court.http://sports.espn.go.com/...
This will be a rather short diary but after I read Reilly's piece I was so angry and astounded by the assholery some are capable of, I needed to vent about it here.
One of the "issues" right-wing radio has cultivated over the years is that todays "liberalized" society is out to stick it to men and Caucasians through tactics like affirmative action and "reverse" sexism. This twisted notion of victimization has played out in California courts where Alfred G.Rava has sued the A's for discriminating against him by not giving him a floppy sun hat.
It so happens that on May 8, 2004, the Oakland A's had a Mother's Day promotion. There was a fight breast cancer 5K run before the game, free mammograms and the first 7,500 women through the gate got floppy plaid sun hats from Macy's. Nice day for the ladies.
Except that last part really hacked off a man named Alfred G. Rava. He was incensed that men weren't getting a floppy plaid sun hat for Mother's Day. He was so mad about it that he sued.
It gets worse. He has nearly won. A judge has given preliminary approval to a $510,000 settlement -- roughly half to lawyers and the rest to the "victims" -- the poor, downtrodden gender-disadvantaged waifs like Rava who didn't get their floppy Mother's Day hats. This is where you come in.
So there you have it folks, this is where the cause of those fighting the "anti-man" agenda has gone. I can't even believe it. The class action verdict would lead to any man with a claim to have been there that day to receive $100. Fortunately it seems like A's fans are not willing to accept this manure
A's fans are not just ignoring Rava in droves; they're pissed. "The entire settlement should be donated to the Breast Care Center at UCSF," says A's fan Ben Huber. "No good deed goes unpunished."
I don't want to quote any more of this good article so check out the link. Apparently this isn't the first time Rava has pulled shit like this and on top of it he lost his own mother to breast cancer recently. Anyway, I'd just like congratulate conservative radio for another fruit of its labor in which money is taken at the expense of such an important cause.
